So, I was finishing up a Bible Study on false teachers from 2 Peter 2 and I check my email account on Yahoo. When I close my account, Yahoo pops up the "most popular" stories and what do I see but wannabe cult leader, Terry Jones, in the news for burning a Koran--again. This time Jones is burning one in Florida. Jones is attempting to be a mainstay in the media and has made the Dearborn Area in which I live one place in his "fight" against Islam. Yet, Jones past is highly suspect as noted from numerous sources for his cult like behavior. There is quite a bit of information about Jones activites on the Internet. One good source that wraps up a lot on Jones is on Wikipedia and can be found here--
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Terry_Jones_(pastor)
From the article--
1) Jones was fined over lying about his education.
2) Jones didn't follow theology, but he followed me-ology (I am more important than Scripture) and cult like.
3) Jones left the church over fraud accusations. Not atypical of cult leaders defrauding their flock.
4) Jones didn't project biblical values or Christianity, but ran his organization like a cult.
5) I just find this one very interesting that Jones and Rush Limbaugh graduated together. 6) In 2009, Jones was removed due to his climate of fear and control--another cult like aspect.
7) Britain views Jones as a fascist--which would also fit into the cult like type of mentality. I saw the article on Jones right after reading the following in the Bible:
"2 Peter: 1But there were also false prophets among the people, just as there will be false teachers among you. They will secretly introduce destructive heresies, even denying the sovereign Lord who bought them —bringing swift destruction on themselves. 2 Many will follow their depraved conduct and will bring the way of truth into disrepute. 3 In their greed these teachers will exploit you with fabricated stories. Their condemnation has long been hanging over them, and their destruction has not been sleeping."
In Jones, we don't have a pastor, but we have a good example of a false prophet or false teacher. He will take your money and he will continue to do outrageous un-Christian acts to get media attention and promote himself as some sort of "fighter for Christianity". I don't remember Jesus talking about "hating your neighbor" or "sowing discontent" or "bearing false witness" or the many other things Jones has done as an alleged "Pastor". For example, Jones claimed Dearborn, Michigan is under Sharia Law. Not true. But, local "Christian" radio host and Republican political operative, Bob Dutko, promoted that claim and restated it.

As a Dearborn resident for 19 years, I think I would be aware of Sharia Law and we don't have it. Actually, we have peaceful existence with not only our Muslim neighbors, but most if not all of our neighbors here. We also have an Irish American Mayor in John O'Reilly and very few if any Muslim's on City Council or the School Board. I bet Ford Motor Company would be shocked to realize we live under Sharia Law in Dearborn, Michigan where Ford headquarters is located. But, it's not about Sharia Law, it's about Jones and his cult like personality to grab attention and money and potentially, "church members" that he can continually fleece. This is the kind of person that Scripture warned us about.
As Jesus warned us in Matthew 7: 15 “Watch out for false prophets. They come to you in sheep’s clothing, but inwardly they are ferocious wolves. 16 By their fruit you will recognize them. Do people pick grapes from thornbushes, or figs from thistles? 17 Likewise, every good tree bears good fruit, but a bad tree bears bad fruit. 18 A good tree cannot bear bad fruit, and a bad tree cannot bear good fruit. 19 Every tree that does not bear good fruit is cut down and thrown into the fire. 20 Thus, by their fruit you will recognize them."
What is Jones fruit? Fake theology, fear, fraud, lies, deception and megolamania.
